Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has confirmed that he has not considered leaving the Catalan giants this summer despite a tricky campaign during 2018/19.
The French centre-back was only able to make 15 appearances in all competitions throughout the last campaign due to a troublesome knee injury, leading to reports linking him with an imminent exit from the Nou Camp. However, he has said that he is aiming to once again become a key cog in the Barcelona team next season.
Talking to Spanish broadcaster RTL, he said: “I have had a difficult season, but I have a contract here until 2023, and I am happy here.
“I will be at Barcelona next season, that is certain.”
Since joining from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon back in 2016, Umtiti has gone on to make 98 appearances for Barca. He has played a role in two La Liga title successes and two Copa del Rey, whilst he also managed to win the World Cup with France last summer.
The defender could be back in action with Les Bleus on Tuesday as they do battle with Andorra in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier. Umtiti can be backed at a price of 22/1 with Betfair to net the opening goal of the match.
