Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that winning a trophy is ‘important’ for the club in the long run.

Spurs begin their FA Cup campaign at the weekend as they go on the road to face Tranmere Rovers in the third round. The North Londoners are also in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup where they will face capital rivals Chelsea.

Pochettino suggested that it is the aim of the whole club to eventually lift silverware. He said: “For many people it’s so important for us to win. For me, of course it’s important, like for the players and the club, to win a trophy. It will show we are in a good position, and of course it’s going to be good for our egos.”

Despite that, the Argentine also implied that the club need to put the Premier League at the forefront of their minds. He said: “But always I told you, the club need to first of all be consistent in the top four and then think about challenging for trophies.

“When you add that you need to finish your facilities, like the training ground or the new stadium, you add difficult things.

“But I think we are in a good way. Of course I accept the different opinions, but I’m not sure whether winning the Carabao Cup or FA Cup is going to change the character of the club.”

Tottenham can be backed at 8/1 to win the FA Cup with William Hill.
