Genoa vs InterInter aim to keep slim European hopes alive by defeating Empoli on the final day of the season, with 3-2 loss to Genoa likely to prove costly.

The Azzurri have nothing to play for at the moment, although they will attempt to produce another promising performance against a top side.

Inter Milan have clearly failed to use this season to improve the club’s fortunes, and they can only hope that next campaign will be much more successful.

Back to back defeats to Juventus and Genoa all but ended team’s European hopes, although an unlikely scenario could see the Nerazzurri squeeze into the Europa League.

Provided the Rossoblu’s third appeal with UEFA is unsuccessful, their Europa League berth will go to seventh-placed side.

But, Inter need to beat Empoli and have Sampdoria lose at home to bottom-placed Parma in order to finish seventh, which looks mission impossible at the moment.

Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri can be trusted to keep their part of the bargain, so bear in mind that they can be backed at 1.57 (4/7) to defeat Empoli.

Nemanja Vidic should return after recovering from a back problem, but Danilo D’Ambrosio misses out through suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-1-2): Handanovic – Nagatomo, Vidic, Ranocchia, Juan Jesus – Brozovic, Medel, Guarin – Hernanes – Icardi, Palacio.

The fact that Empoli secured Serie A survival with five or six games to spare speaks volumes about the showings of the team many had tipped to get relegated.

The Azzurri were led brilliantly by coach Maurizio Sarri, who is widely expected to take over the reigns at a top Italian club this summer.

Empoli have suffered a minor dip in form of late, which is hardly surprising, taking just one point from last three league fixtures.

However, having beaten Napoli and Torino while giving a good account of themselves in matches against Fiorentina, Verona and Sampdoria, the Azzurri can be trusted to make life difficult for Inter as well.

Key players Lorenzo Tonelli and Mirco Valdifiori are rated doubtful, whereas Tiberio Guarente remains a long-term casualty.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-1-2): Bassi – Laurini, Rugani, Barba, Hysaj – Vecino, Valdifiori, Croce – Saponara – Pucciarelli, Mchedlidze.
