Ghana vs AlgeriaEven if the matters are not only in their hands, South Africa will attempt to finally turn their promising performances into points and stay in contention for a place in the quarter-finals.

Ghana may qualify even with a draw here, but they need to beat Bafana in order to be sure of their progress into the next stage.

With coach Shakes Mashaba taking a relatively inexperienced side to Equatorial Guinea, it is fair to say not too many people game South Africa any chance of qualifying for the next round.

Bafana were seen as the weakest side in the group that also contains Algeria, Senegal and Ghana, but the team, nonetheless, showed a great deal of promise in the first two matches.

South Africa managed to outclass both Algeria and Senegal, taking the lead in both matches while missing a host of clear-cut chances, but they eventually had to settle for a 3-1 loss and 1-1 draw.

As a result, Bafana need a win, and possibly a big one, in their final match against Ghana if they are to go through, so bear in mind 3.80 (14/5) to claim maximum points.

Coach Shakes Mashaba hopes his strikers will finally start converting those chances, with Tokelo Rantie expected to keep his place in the side.

Defender Thulani Hlatshwayo will miss the game after suffering a concussion, but Rivaldo Coetzee could return after resuming training.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Mabokgwane – Ngcongca, Coetzee, Mathoho, Matlaba – Furman, Jali – Phala, Vilakazi, Manyisa – Rantie.

If it hadn’t been for Asamoah Gyan’s late winner against Algeria, Ghana would be in a very difficult position at the moment, but the Black Stars instead remain masters of their own destiny.

The reality is Avram Grant’s charges did not impress in their first two matches, losing to Senegal, before being very fortunate to record a narrow win over Les Fennecs.

And with South Africa playing some great football at the tournament finals, Ghana will have to seriously raise their game if they want to get something from this match.

But, given that their opponents will be under bigger pressure on Tuesday evening, you should know the Black Stars can be backed at 2.25 (5/4) to record a win.

Captain Asamoah Gyan is expected to start despite not being fully fit, but there are no other worries for coach Avram Grant.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Brimah – Afful, Amartey, Mensah, Baba – Acquah, Badu – Atsu, J. Ayew, A. Ayew – Gyan.
