Lazio vs Tottenham preview

Group J leaders Lazio would secure the first place in the standings with three points from this match, whereas Tottenham need at least one point in order to remain second before the final group game.

Vladimir Petkovic was the first Lazio boss after quite a while to take Europa League seriously and the imminent progress into the next stage will be a just reward for his positive approach.

Even with his squad lacking strength in depth, Bosnian coach resisted the temptation to rest most of his starters in European games, which led to the Biancocelesti picking no less than 8 points from first 4 group games.

Being two points clear of their next opposition, Lazio would remain top of the group even with one point, but do expect the hosts to try and finish the job at their Olimpico.

After holding mighty Juventus to a goalless draw in Turin, the Biancocelesti are 2.45 (29/20) with BetVictor to see off Tottenham.

With the Serie A match against Udinese moved to Tuesday, Vladimir Petkovic is expected to field his strongest squad, although centre-back Andre Dias has been ruled out through injury. Senad Lulic and Stefano Mauri return from domestic suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-1-4-1): Marchetti – Konko, Biava, Ciani, Lulic – Ledesma – Candreva, Hernanes, Gonzalez, Mauri – Klose.

This game clearly comes at a bad time for Tottenham, given that Spurs have now lost four of their last five games in all competitions.

The heavy defeat in North London derby is another reason why the players will be low on confidence in Rome, but Tottenham should not be written off just yet.

With Spurs in desperate need of a morale-boosting win, boss Andre Villas-Boas is likely to field a very strong line-up at Olimpico, and maybe his side will be able to return to winning ways.

Tottenham are 3.20 (11/5) with BetFred to win this game, whereas the price on draw is 3.40 (12/5) at BetVictor.

Moussa Dembele and Steven Caulker are unlikely to be risked, but youngster Tom Carroll could start in the centre of the park.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Lloris – Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Naughton – Lennon, Huddlestone, Carroll, Bale – Adebayor, Dempsey.
