Juventus vs Lazio

Juventus are searching for their fifth straight victory and an opportunity to remain at the Serie A summit, but the game against Lazio will be no easy task. The Biancocelesti produced a brilliant performance to beat Napoli at Olimpico and they are aware a good result in Turin would edge them closer to Champions League qualification.

Juventus continue to impress

While Juventus have been showing a lot of promise this season and played some great football along the way, not too many people believed they would be able to pip very experienced Milan side to the Serie A title. Just few weeks ago it looked as though the predictions were spot on as the Bianconeri appeared to have crumbled under pressure, but they then recorded four straight Serie A victories and took advantage of Milan’s unexpected slip ups to return to the league summit. With Antonio Conte’s side scheduled to face five bottom-table teams in the remaining seven fixtures, everyone believes that Juventus will lift the title if they manage to beat Lazio in Turin. The hosts will fancy their chances against inconsistent Lazio after winning their last four league games, in which they scored 12 goals and conceded none. Seeing that Juventus also beat the Biancocelesti at Olimpico earlier in the season, they have got to be considered favourites to win this clash.

Antonio Conte is expected to field his side in a 3-5-2 formation, with Stephan Lichtsteiner and Paolo De Ceglie occupying the wing positions.

Still no consistency

Without a doubt Lazio are the most inconsistent side in Serie A and you never really know what to expect from Edy Reja’s team. The fact that the Biancocelesti squad undergone major changes in the summer could be seen as an excuse, whereas numerous injuries to the playing squad also prevented the boss from getting the best out of his players. Nevertheless, in spite of all the problems, Lazio currently sit in 3rd place in the standings, three points clear of Udinese and after the 3-1 victory over Napoli they are now considered favourites for the final Champions League berth. Even so, we cannot really say that Lazio are on top of their game at the moment, having lost three of their last five league games and with several important missings, the visitors could struggle to match their more illustrious opponents. When we also take into account that Lazio lost 8 of their last 10 away games, then home win looks a good bet here.

Miroslav Klose, Andre Dias, Senad Lulic and Marius Stankevicius remain sidelined, whereas Antonio Candreva could replace Hernanes in the trequartista role.

Conclusion

Juventus have been absolutely brilliant of late and they will give their best to continue the rich vein of form and edge closer to the Serie A title. Lazio, on the other hand, are terribly inconsistent and the record of 8 defeats in last 10 away games don’t give them much to hope for before the trip to Turin.
