Monday evening’s match in the Premier League sees seventh place Tottenham Hotspur face bottom of the table Sunderland.

Tim Sherwood’s side have lost four of their last six league games, culminating in a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last time out.

Victory here would see them move above Manchester United, and go five points behind North London rivals Arsenal in fourth, after the Gunners lost to fellow top four hopefuls Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Top league goal-scorer Emmanuel Adebayor is expected to feature after recovering from an ankle injury, while Vlad Chiriches and Paulinho are also in contention though Jan Vertonghen and Roberto Soldado join Kyle Walker and Etienne Capoue on the side-lines.

Adebayor is favourite to open the scoring at 5.5 (9/2) with Ladbrokes, with Christian Eriksen a 9.0 (8/1) shot with Bet Victor.

Spurs are odds on favourites to take all three points, and can be backed at odds of (8/13) with a variety of firms while Sunderland are as highly priced as the 6.5 (11/2) on offer from Bet 365. The draw is a 4.33 (10/3) chance with Sky Bet.

The visitors slipped to the bottom of the league over the weekend by virtue of Fulham’s win at Aston Villa and are currently seven points from safety though they have at least two games in hand over almost every other side in the division.

However, they have lost six of their last seven games in all competitions, drawing the other, and follow this match with three against teams currently in the top five.

Manager Gus Poyet has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game, with Steven Fletcher and Kieren Westwood the only absentees.

Fabio Borini and Connor Wickham are each priced at 12.5 (23/2) to get the first goal of the game with 888 Sport, with Adam Johnson, who could be recalled to the starting line-up after scoring as a substitute in the defeat to West Ham United a week ago, a 16.0 (15/1) shot with the same firm.

Johnson opened the scoring when the sides met at the Stadium of Light back in December, though the Mackems went on to lose by two goals to one while a late Gareth Bale goal was enough to secure the points at White Hart Lane in the final game of last season.

In fact, Spurs have won by a single goal in five of the last six meetings between the sides, so you may be tempted to take advantage of Ladbrokes offer of 3.75 (11/4) for them to do so this time around.
