Swansea vs Wolves

Swansea City aim to finish the season on a high and possibly achieve a top half finish, so there are no doubts the hosts will give their best to beat already relegated Wolverhampton. The Midlands side ended their survival hopes with the home defeat to Manchester City, and they could have problems finding the motivation at Liberty Stadium.

Swans back in business

As soon as the season started we could see that Brendan Rodgers’ side are not in the Premier League only to make numbers and the Swans quickly showed they have too much quality to even get involved in the relegation dogfight. The team seem to have relaxed a bit after securing Premiership survival, having lost four games in a row, but they have since returned to the right track and they look determined to finish the league campaign on a high. Impressive 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers was followed by another scintillating performance against Bolton, although numerous chances the Swans created at Reebok Stadium didn’t prove enough for what would be a deserved victory. Nonetheless, Swansea now have a great chance to return to winning ways as they play host to sorry Wolverhampton and another comfortable victory looks on the cards.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has no fresh injury worries, meaning he is set to field the same side that started the Bolton game.

Wolves back to the Championship

Wolverhampton are the first team to have secured relegation to the Championship and the fact that happened with three more games to go proves the Midlands side have nobody else to blame but themselves. In hindsight, it is perfectly clear that the club chiefs were wrong to sack coach Mick McCarthy in spite of several under-par results, seeing that Wolves have picked up just two points from 10 games under Terry Connor. Even before the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City it was evident the players had lost all hope of staying alive and this lack of confidence and motivation is seriously affecting team’s performances. Wolverhampton have nothing to play for but pride in their final three games of the season, and taking that into account, I would be really surprised if they manage to stop in-form Swansea from winning this game.

Wayne Hennessey, Jamie O’Hara and Joddy Craddock are all sidelined through injury, and they have been joined by Sebastien Bassong.

Verdict

Impressive performances against Blackburn and Bolton helped Swansea restore some of the lost confidence and Brendan Rodgers’ side go into this game in great spirits and very motivated to further improve their league position. Rock-bottom Wolves have nothing to hope for at the moment and they should be happy if they manage to avoid a heavy defeat at Liberty.
