Bayern Munich vs Basel preview

Bayern Munich remain the favourites to go through, but Basel will fancy their chances after the 1-0 victory over their more illustrious opponents at St Jakob Park.

The German giants have been struggling for form of late, and they could turn what looked as a very promising season into an utter disappointment.

Jupp Heynckes’ side currently sit five points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, whereas their Champions League campaign is clearly not going as planned.

Bayern did dominate the first leg against Basel and created a lot of chances to score, but their profligacy in front of goal ended up costing them dearly in Switzerland.

The Bavarians recorded a 7-1 victory over Hoffenheim at the weekend, which should give them a much needed boost before the return leg, but odds of 1.22 (2/9) offered by Stan James on home win are just not good enough.

Mario Gomez, Arjen Robben and Jerome Boateng are all in contention after shaking off minor knocks, whereas Bastian Schweinsteiger returned into action in the victory over Hoffenheim.

Rafinha remains doubtful with a flu, whereas Daniel Van Buyten and Breno are long-term casualties.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Lahm, Boateng, Badstuber, Alaba – Kroos, Gustavo – Robben, Muller, Ribery – Gomez.

The Swiss champions produced quite a coup by beating mighty Manchester United to the second place in the group, but Basel didn’t want to stop there.

Led by former Bayern Munich youth coach Heiko Vogel, the Swiss side produced a very good performance in the first leg of their knockout stage clash against Bayern and managed to record an invaluable victory.

The team have since continued with strong performances, winning next three league games, so odds of 3.00 (2/1) offered by 188BET on Basel to qualify could be worth a shot.

Park Joo Ho is doubtful with an ankle problem, whereas Kay Voser and Scott Chipperfield are unlikely to be included.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Sommer – Steinhofer, Abraham, Dragovic, Park – Shaqiri, Huggel, Xhaka, F. Frei – A. Frei, Streller.
