Real Betis vs Sevilla preview

Sevilla vs BetisThe 5-1 thumping of Granada served as a perfect way for Real Betis to prepare for Derbi sevillano, whereas Sevilla did their part by recording a hard-fought victory over Athletic Bilbao.

Los Verdeblancos have been playing some great football this season and they could even enter the race for Champions League places, but their fans will not be happy unless the team manage to get revenge on their bitter rivals for the 5-1 defeat in the reverse fixture at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The derby game comes at a good time for the hosts as they did brilliantly to make amends for setbacks against Valencia and Getafe.

In spite of missing three key players in Granada, Real Betis produced a memorable performance to record a big win and they, therefore, go into the Sevilla game full of confidence.

With their next opponents largely struggling on the road, it comes as no surprise that los Verdeblancos are 2.62 (13/8) favourites at SkyBet to win this game.

Joel Campbell, Benat Etxebarria and Antonio Amaya all return from suspension, but Mario misses out with a hamstring problem.

Dorlan Pabon has recovered from a calf injury, but full-back Nacho Perez is a major doubt with a muscle injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Adrian – Chica, Paulao, Amaya, Nacho – Campbell, Benat, Canas, Vadillo – Ruben Castro, Pabon.

It’s been a couple of years now that Sevilla have been on a major downtrend and problems continue to mount for los Rojiblancos.

With the club forced to sell their key players due to difficult financial situation, there is a real danger that Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan outfit will soon be fighting for La Liga survival.

Last weekend’s victory over Athletic Bilbao boosted team’s European hopes, although Sevilla are still six points adrift of Europa League places.

This basically means they have got to win at Estadio Benito Villamarin in order to have any chance of playing European football next term, but that is easier said than done.

Los Rojiblancos are 2.80 (9/5) at Stan James to win the second derby of the season, but there is little value in those odds given team’s shocking away record.

Sevilla have now lost five straight fixtures on the road, although at least they managed to score in four of those matches.

The visitors will have Jesus Navas back from suspension, but Fernando Navarro is banned. Federico Fazio, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Ivan Rakitic should be in contention after shaking off knocks.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Beto – Coke, Fazio, Botia, Moreno – Medel, Kondogbia – Navas, Rakitic, Reyes – Negredo.
