Real Betis vs Deportivo La Coruna preview

Depor vs BetisReal Betis’ European hopes are hanging by a thread following the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid, so this is basically a must-win game for the hosts.

Deportivo remained above the relegation positions despite the 1-1 draw with Athletic, but a point or three from Estadio Benito Villamarin would go a long way.

In spite of going strong throughout the league campaign, Real Betis have really damaged their chances of clinching European qualification over the last few weeks.

A difficult fixture list certainly played a part, but the general impression is los Verdiblancos should have done better of late.

Having taken just 5 points from last 5 league matches, Pepe Mel’s side are already out of the race for Champions League places, while their Europa League qualification will also be in danger unless they can defeat Deportivo.

Buoyed by the promising showing at Vicente Calderon, Real Betis will fancy their chances against in-form La Coruna side, with home win paying 2.00 (1/1) at Coral.

The team may be unbeaten in last seven home games, but the fact they have won just two of those is enough to suggest there is a lot of room for improvement.

Boss Pepe Mel has received a welcoming boost as Antonio Amaya and Benat Etxebarria were passed fit, but Paulao is out through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Adrian – Chica, Perquis, Amaya, Martinez – Benat, Canas – Campbell, Molina, Pabon – Castro.

Surviving this La Liga campaign would be a remarkable feat for Deportivo La Coruna considering that the team have spent much of the current campaign at the rock bottom.

Just few weeks ago it looked as though Depor were destined for the drop, with the team having picked up just two points from nine league fixtures ahead of the season finale.

However, La Coruna remarkably embarked on a four-match winning run to escape the bottom three and they further boosted their survival chances with a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao.

The players are brimming with confidence following the amazing run of results, and with that in mind, there may be some value in odds of 4.00 (3/1) offered at Sportingbet on away win.

Deportivo have scored no less than seven goals in last two away matches, and they will certainly be looking to continue the rich vein of form in Seville.

First team regulars Abel Aguiar and Nelson Oliveira has recovered from their respective injuries, but Laure and Carlos Marchena continue to miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Aranzubia – Pablo, Aythami, Kaka, Silvio – Bergantinos, Aguiar – Pizzi, Valeron, Gama – Riki.
