Malaga vs Atletico Madrid preview

Atletico vs MalagaWith Malaga in real danger of slipping out of the top 4 after the heavy defeat to Real Betis, this will be an extremely important match for the hosts.

Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, have just secured their place in Copa del Rey final, but they could use maximum points from La Rosaleda in their battle for the second place in the league standings.

Los Boquerones have been thoroughly impressive this season, overcoming all their problems to produce some excellent showings on all three fronts, but it remains to be seen whether they will have enough energy for the final push.

Malaga are now on the right track, sitting in fourth place in La Liga standings and vying Porto for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals, but two defeats in a row could prove costly.

While the 1-0 loss in Portugal cannot be considered as such a bad result ahead of the return leg, 3-0 setback to Real Betis in the league could end up costing the team dearly.

With fifth-placed Valencia now just one point behind, Malaga need to give their best to see off Atletico, and they are 3.00 (2/1) with BetVictor to return to winning ways.

Julio Baptista is out for two to three weeks with a torn hamstring, but Sergio Sanchez and Jeremy Toulalan have both resumed full training. Ignacio Camacho is suspended.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Caballero – Sanchez, Demichelis, Weligton, Antunes – Toulalan, Iturra – Joaquin, Isco, Portillo – Saviola.

Even if it was by no means easy to keep the high standard of performances from the very start to the season, Atletico have done brilliantly to keep the momentum going and are determined to make the most out of this season.

Los Colchoneros may have failed to defend the Europa League title, but they have hammered Chelsea in the European Super Cup while climbing to the second place in La Liga.

The 2-2 draw against Sevilla ensured Atletico qualify for Copa del Rey final, so all that’s left now is to try and hold on to that second place in the league before the Cup final in May.

Back to back wins over Valladolid and Espanyol ensured los Colchoneros remain four points clear of arch rivals Real Madrid, and they now aim to make it three in a row.

With Malaga going through a very rough patch at the moment, they may be some value in odds of 2.62 (13/8) offered on away win at Coral.

Tigao misses out with an elbow injury, while Gabi Fernandez is suspended after he was sent off against Espanyol.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Courtois – Juanfran, Godin, Miranda, Filipe Luis – Koke, Raul Garcia, Mario, Turan – Falcao, Diego Costa.
