Barcelona have reportedly set about strengthening their defence this summer having approached former OGC Nice defender Malang Sarr about a move to the Camp Nou.

The French centre-back is available on a free transfer having failed to come to an agreement on a new deal at the Allianz Riviera and could now move to Barcelona, according to France Football.

The reports explain that current Barca Sporting Director Eric Abidal has approached his compatriot, making the club’s interest in known. They are apparently set to have considerable competition for his signature though, with English clubs thought to be tracking him, as well as Serie A outfit Torino.

In his time with Nice, Sarr has become one of the most coveted young players in world football. Having progressed through the club’s academy, he has gone on to make 119 appearances in all competitions, even going on to captain the Les Aiglons on a couple of occasions.

Should he move to the Nou Camp, he would be joining a team in dire need of reinforcements following their embarrassing 8-2 humbling at the hands of Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Considering their well-reported financial troubles, Sarr arriving on a free transfer could well be a shrewd move.

Meanwhile, the club are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Ronald Koeman to take over as manager. The Dutchman was as high as 9/1 with Paddy Power to be named as the next permanent Blaugrana boss.
