Lazio vs Udinese preview

Lazio vs UdineseLast year’s top 5 rivals meet at the start of the new Serie A campaign, both of them looking to make amends for some huge disappointments in the opening exchanges.

While ending the last league campaign in seventh place and dropping out of Europa League, the Biancocelesti managed to compensate by lifting the Coppa Italia trophy.

The first major trophy in a while was expected to serve as a huge boost for the club and helped them attract some high-profile players, but the Stadio Olimpico outfit failed to do everything they planned.

Felipe Anderson, Lucas Biglia and Diego Novaretti were added to the squad, but a new striker did not arrive, although there are still some ten days left to sort that out.

Despite showing some promise in pre-season, Lazio had a dismal start to the new season, suffering a 4-0 defeat to Juventus in the Italian Super Cup match, so no doubt they will be out to make amends against Udinese.

With their opponents also reeling from recent disappointments, bear in mind home win pays 2.05 (21/20) at William Hill.

Captain Stefano Mauri is still suspended, whereas Felipe Anderson and Bruno Pereirinha are out injured. Abdoulay Konko faces a fitness test.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Marchetti – Cavanda, Biava, Dias, Radu – Gonzalez, Ledesma – Candreva, Hernanes, Lulic – Klose.

Udinese eventually managed to pip Roma and Lazio to the final Europa League berth thanks to an amazing run of eight straight victories, but they were unable to pick up where they left off.

While easing off to a 7-1 aggregate triumph over Siroki Brijeg in the Europa League third qualifying stage, the Zebrette suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at home to Slovan Liberec in the play-off stage, meaning they will have a lot to prove in their opening Serie A fixture.

Even if a plethora of players go through the revolving door at Friuli every summer, there were no major arrivals this time out, with Mehdi Benatia the only notable departure.

The Zebrette should be low on confidence following the home loss to Liberec, but with the Lazio game clearly the priority, they can be trusted to show a considerable improvement.

Seeing as how Udinese have won every one of their last eight league fixtures, you should know away win pays 4.20 (16/5) at Ladbrokes.

Antonio Di Natale should start despite a head injury, but goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic continues to miss out with a shoulder injury.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-1-2): Kelava – Heurtaux, Danilo, Domizzi – Basta, Allan, Pinzi, Silva – Pereyra – Di Natale, Muriel.
