Inter vs Roma preview

Roma vs InterOverturning a one-goal deficit from the first leg wouldn’t normally be such a tough task for Inter, but given the circumstances, the Neroazzurri seem to be in a very difficult position.

Roma carry a 2-1 lead into the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final and they are without a doubt in better spirits than their opponents.

All the problems Inter have faced throughout the season are finally starting to get to them, with the latest dip in form threatening to ruin team’s campaign.

The Neroazzuri are already out of Europe, they have slipped from the European places in Serie A, meaning the Coppa Italia could be the only opportunity to save this season.

Beating Roma to a place in the final looks a mission impossible now that the team have lost five of last seven games in all competitions, especially as a number of key players continue to miss out.

As a result, Inter are 3.25 (9/4) at Paddy Power to qualify for the final, but I see absolutely no value in those odds.

Having also lost last three home matches in the league, everything suggests the disappointing run of results is set to continue.

In the absence of Cassano, Milito and Palacio, Tommaso Rocchi is set to be deployed as a lone striker, with Fredy Guarin and Ricardo Alvarez helping from midfield.

Luca Castellazzi, Joel Obi, Cristian Chivu, Dejan Stankovic, Ibrahima Mbaye and Gabi Mudingyi all remain on the sidelines.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-2-1): Handanovic – Nagatomo, Samuel, Ranocchia, Pereira – Zanetti, Kovacic, Cambiasso – Guarin, Alvarez – Rocchi.

Roma, too, have been going through a very difficult season, but at least they are in better position than their next opponents.

With no European distractions, the Giallorossi have managed to find some consistency since the arrival of Aurelio Andreazzoli and they might just succeed in saving this season.

The good run of results in the league saw them climb to European positions, while they now plan to finish the job in Coppa Italia and earn a chance to battle bitter rivals Lazio in the final.

Following the 1-1 draw in Derby della Capitale, Roma produced quite a coup by beating Torino away, meaning the players go into this game high on confidence.

With several important players back to the side after being rested at the weekend, the Giallorossi are 2.70 (17/10) at William Hill to win at Giuseppe Meazza.

Daniele De Rossi should return from an ankle problem, while Francesco Totti, Alessandro Florenzi, Marquinhos and Torosidis should be recalled.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-1-2): Stekelenburg – Torosidis, Marquinhos, Castan, Marquinho – Bradley, De Rossi, Florenzi – Pjanic – Totti, Lamela.
