Fiorentina vs Roma preview

Roma vs FiorentinaFiorentina will be hoping to extend their winning run to four games when they take on Roma and thus climb to the third place at least for some 16 hours or so.

The Giallorossi need a victory at Artemio Franchi in order to remain in the driving seat for Europa League qualification, so something will have to give in Florence.

This season is proving to be a major success for Viola, and with just four games to go their Champions League dream is still very much alive.

That did not appear to be the case just few weeks ago when they were six points adrift of Milan and struggling for form, but three straight victories seriously improved their chances.

Fiorentina now sit just one point behind their top 3 rivals, but the good news this is their final game against a top table side.

Facing relegation strugglers Siena, Palermo and Pescara won’t be easy, but Viola certainly have enough quality to win all those games.

However, they first need to see off revived Roma, and they are just 2.00 (1/1) at Ladbrokes to claim maximum points. The 12-4-1 home record may have something to do with it.

The hosts have some problems at the back as Stefan Savic is suspended and Facundo Roncaglia and Michele Camporese are injured, but they seem to have decent replacements for the absentees.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Viviano – Tomovic, Rodriguez, Compper, Pasqual – Aquilani, Pizarro, Valero – Cuadrado, Jovetic, Ljajic.

There are no doubts this Roma side have enough quality to fight for a top 3 finish, but the problem is they haven’t been playing to their potential this term.

The team were showing glimpses of quality under Zdenek Zeman, but the Czech coach was sacked in an attempt to save this season.

Roma have indeed showed a considerable improvement under Aurelio Andreazzoli, picking up 21 points out of possible 33, while pipping Inter to a place in the Coppa Italia final.

The latest good run of results saw the Giallorossi climb to fifth in the league standings and while a top 3 finish looks a bit far-fetched, they have a good chance to cement their current league position.

Winning at Artemio Franchi will be no easy task, as witnessed by odds of 3.80 (14/5) offered at Stan James on away win.

Experienced Bogdan Lobont looks set to deputize for Maarten Stekelenburg, who is set for a two-week spell on the sidelines after picking up a muscle injury.

Marquinho, Marquinhos and Dodo have all resumed full training, while Daniele De Rossi is expected to overcome an ankle problem to start in Florence.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lobont – Torosidis, Marquinhos, Castan, Balzaretti – De Rossi, Bradley – Lamela, Totti, Florenzi – Osvaldo.
