Stuttgart vs Benfica preview

Stuttgart showed a lot of potential in the first leg but they ended up losing the game 2:1 despite taking the lead, although the Swbians still have a good result before the return leg.

However, their current form and four defeats in last five games don’t give them much reason for optimism, especially with Benfica flying high at the moment.

The atmosphere in the team is at an all time low after the 4:2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen left the Swabians deep in the relegation zone, while numerous selection problems only add to the worries.

Cacau and Serdar Tasci miss out with groin problems, while Pavel Pogrebnyak and Arthur Boka remain long-term worries. Coach Bruno Labbadia announced that Mark Ziegler will take over in goal from Sven Ulreich.

Benfica had a very slow start to the first leg at La Luz, but they still managed to win the game and create few more chances to increase the scoreline.

The Eagles are the favourites to win this match as well, as they are on a 15-match winning run after defeating Sporting Lisbon at the weekend.

Therefore, odds of 2.60 (8/5) offered by William Hill on away win look very tempting indeed.

Defender Jardel will be fit to play despite picking up a knock against Sporting, but Ruben Amorim and Cesar Peixoto remain sidelined.
