Saint Etienne vs Toulouse preview

St Etienne vs ToulouseHigh-flying Saint Etienne will attempt to climb to the Ligue 1 summit at least for 48 hours with what would be their third successive league win.

Meanwhile, Toulouse sit in the relegation zone still searching for their first victory of the campaign, but this is clearly a bad time to be facing in-form les Verts.

Early elimination from Europe could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Christophe Galtier’s men even if the strength in depth have been significantly improved during the summer.

Nevertheless, while easing off to 6-0 aggregate win over Milsami-Ursidos, les Verts suffered two shock defeats to Swedish side Esbjerg and thus said goodbye to European football.

In the meantime, they have been quite impressive in the league, winning four of first five fixtures to climb to the second position in the standings.

Saint Etienne players are now brimming with confidence following back to back triumphs over Bordeaux and Valenciennes, so no wonder the hosts are 1.85 (17/20) favourites to see off Toulouse as well.

Important attacker Max Gradel has finally resumed full training, but he is not yet ready to feature, but Brison, Brandao, Baysse, Polomat and Pogba remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Ruffier – Clerc, Sall, Perrin, Ghoulam – Lemoine, Clement – Hamouma, Corgnet, Tabanou – Erding.

With key players continuing to leave Stade Municipal, Toulouse were always going to have a tough task of remaining a top table side in French Ligue 1.

After Bulut, Tabanou, Capoue and M’Bengue all left this term, le Tefece attempted to sign decent replacements, but the dismal start to the season is enough to suggest they haven’t really succeeded in their quest.

Toulouse failed to win any of their first five league games, picking up just three points in the process and slipping to the relegation zone.

The team did show some improvement to hold Marseille to a 1-1 draw at home, but they will have to be at their best if they want to stop high-flying Saint Etienne in their tracks.

Seeing as how Alain Casanova’s men probably wouldn’t be disappointed to bring one point from Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, you should know draw pays 3.50 (5/2) at BetVictor.

Jonathan Zebina could return into contention, but Eden Ben Basat, Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpo and Mihai Roman are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-2): Ahamada – Ninkov, Aurier, Spajic, Abdennour, Sylla – Chantome, Didot, Trejo – Ben Yedder, Braithwaite.
