Inter vs Napoli preview

The start of Serie A season is serving us treat after treat, with the clash between revived Inter and high-flying Napoli a perfect way to spend Saturday evening.

Following numerous disappointments and the six-match winless run under Gian Piero Gasperini, Inter fans were definitely delighted to see the former Genoa coach’s back.

Largely undervalued Claudio Ranieri took over the reigns and immediately proved his credentials, by leading Neroazzurri to back to back away wins over Bologna and CSKA Moscow.

Needless to say that two morale-boosting victories were just what the team needed to return to the right track, and a victory over title rivals Napoli would be a sign that the crisis is over. Inter are 2.10 (11/10) with 888Sport to record third successive win.

Giampaolo Pazzini was forced to pull out from the CSKA game after injuring his ankle and he is set to miss out the derby clash, just like Rannochia, Motta, Sneijder, Cordoba, Viviano and Poli.

The good news is that Dejan Stankovic and Douglas Maicon have resumed training and they could be in contention.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-1-2): Julio Cesar – Nagatomo, Lucio, Samuel, Chivu – Zanetti, Cambiasso, Obi – Alvarez – Forlan, Zarate.

Napoli were expected to make a step up this season after showing a lot of potential last term and Walter Mazzarri’s side seem to have no problems coping with the high expectations.

Opening Serie A victories over Cesena and Milan were marred by defeat to Chievo and a goalless draw against Fiorentina, but four points from two games in Champions League group of death prove that Napoli are becoming a real force to be reckoned with.

Games have been coming thick and fast for the Partenopei over the last few weeks, so no wonder boss Mazzarri was forced to deploy a rotation policy, although he is expected to field his best side at Giuseppe Meazza as the players will have had enough time to recover from the 2:0 win over Villarreal.

Edison Cavani and Blerim Dzemaili have been ruled out through injury, whereas Miguel Britos remains long-term worry.

Goran Pandev and Giuseppe Mascara are vying for the third place in attack, but the Macedonian should get the nod to face his parent club.

Napoli would probably be happy even with one point from the game, although they are no less than 4.00 (3/1) with Ladbrokes to win at Meazza.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-2-1): De Sanctis – Campagnaro, Cannavaro, Aronica – Maggio, Inler, Gargano, Dossena – Hamsik, Pandev – Lavezzi.
