England vs BrazilMidway through the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, England and Ireland square off at Wembley hoping to keep the good atmosphere in the squad with a positive result at Wembley.

Following the quarter-final exit at the Euro 2012, the Three Lions showed some promise at the start of the World Cup qualifiers, but they haven’t quite managed to live up to their potential.

After the 1-1 draw against Montenegro in their last qualifier, England sit in second place in Group H, two points clear of the Eastern European side with just four games to go, although they play host to Brave Falcons in the penultimate game.

Roy Hodgson now need to raise the players’ spirits ahead of the crucial qualifying games, with friendlies against Ireland, Brazil and Scotland likely to prove a stern test for his side.

In spite of all the problems, England are 1.50 (1/2) favourites with Coral to continue the promising run of results in friendly games.

Roy Hodgson is without Andy Carroll, Steven Gerrard, Tom Cleverley, Jack Wilshire and Kyle Walker, with Jack Rodwell receiving a late call-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Foster – Jonhson, Jones, Cahill, Baines – Lampard, Carrick – Walcott, Rooney, Milner – Sturridge.

Republic of Ireland made it to a major tournament for the first time after quite a while as they qualified for the Euro 2012, but they could do little to avoid three defeats in group stage.

Such a disappointing performance was expected to have a negative effect on the team, but they, nonetheless, began the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign in bright fashion.

Apart from the home defeat to Germany, Ireland were pretty impressive throughout, although the late conceded goal in the final game against Austria denied them the chance to move to the second place in the group.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s side are now tied on points with Austria and Sweden, meaning they are still in with a chance of qualifying for the tournament finals.

Ireland now face England at Wembley hoping to prove their worth against their more illustrious opponents, with away win paying 7.50 (13/2) at Stan James.

Robbie Keane was given permission to join the squad, but Kevin Doyle, Anthony Pilkington and Paul Green all miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Forde – Coleman, St Ledger, O’Shea, Wilson – Walters, Whelan, McCarthy, McClean – Keane, Long.
