DFB Pokal final preview: Bayern Munich vs Stuttgart

Bayern vs StuttgartNever have a German team won a treble of major titles, but Bayern Munich have got an excellent chance to make the history books having also won Bundesliga and Champions League trophies this term.

Standing in their way are Stuttgart, a team that have been on a major downtrend of late, but the one that will give their best to save this season by winning the DFB Pokal.

While speculations linking Jupp Heynckes with a summer switch to Real Madrid continue to mount, the Bavarians are just one step away from making this by far the most successful season in club’s history.

The Bundesliga trophy have been in the bag for a while, but the most important thing is that Bayern finally managed to lift the fifth European Cup trophy, even if they were made to work really hard for the win in the final.

Heavily criticized Arjen Robben proved to be the hero, scoring the winner late into the game, although he had missed two clear-cut chances earlier.

Bayern are now hot favourites to defeat Stuttgart in regular time, with Paddy Power paying just 1.20 (1/5) on the Bavarians.

After failing to get on the scoresheet at Wembley, Frank Ribery looks a good bet to register a goal against Stuttgart, at odds of 2.40 (7/5) offered by bet365.

Brazil internationals Dante and Luiz Gustavo were allowed to join their national team, while Toni Kross and Holger Badstuber are long-term worries.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Lahm, Boateng, Van Buyten, Alaba – Martinez, Schweinsteiger – Robben, Muller, Ribery – Mandzukic.

It’s all been downhill for Stuttgart ever since they won the last of their five Bundesliga titles in 2007 and they can no longer been considered a top German side.

The team were utterly disappointing in the league this season, ending the league campaign just four places above the relegation zone, but they surprisingly managed to reach the DFB Pokal final.

Easy fixture list was probably the main reason behind this success, with the Swabians eliminating the likes of Falkensee-Finkenkrug, St Pauli, Koln, Bochum and Freiburg, playing last four matches at home.

The match against new Champions League winners will be a whole different ball game, so no wonder Stuttgart are 8.50 (15/2) with Paddy Power to lift the trophy.

Everybody at the club was delighted to see captain Serdar Tasci return to the side after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, even if he is playing through the pain at the moment.

Cacau and Tunay Torun both returned into action in the friendly win over Reutlingen, and they could be in contention for the Bayern clash.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Ulreich – Sakai, Tasci, Niedermeier, Molinaro – Gentner, Boka – Harnik, Maxim, Okazaki – Ibisevic.
