Brazil vs Russia preview

Brazil vs ItalyStamford Bridge has been elected as a venue to host the friendly clash between 2014 World Cup hosts Brazil and high-flying Russia, with both sides going for a win in this high-profile encounter.

Following some under-par showings in international friendlies and at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Mano Menezes made way for Luiz Felipe Scolari, who should lead the Seleccao at the 2014 World Cup.

The former Chelsea boss hasn’t had such a good start to his second spell as Brazil boss, with his team losing to England in February before sharing spoils with Italy last Thursday.

He is now hoping to end the barren run at the familiar venue, with Ladbrokes paying 1.57 (4/7) on home win.

The Seleccao will have something to prove after squandering a two-goal lead against Italy, and there are likely to be changes to the starting line-up.

Thiago Silva, Luiz Gustavo, Kaka and Marcelo are all expected to start against Russia after being left out of the starting line-up in the Italy match.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cesar – Alves, Luiz, Silva, Marcelo – Oscar, Gustavo, Hernanes – Kaka, Diego Costa, Neymar.

Russia made a mess out of their Euro 2012 campaign despite enjoying a great start to the tournament, with unexpected defeat to Greece seeing them crash out in group stage.

Fabio Capello has since taken over the reigns and he enjoyed a great start to his career in Russia, with his side climbing to the top of their 2014 World Cup qualifying group.

After winning their first four games, Sbornaya Komanda now sit four points clear of Portugal and Israel with a game in hand, meaning they are on the verge of securing their place at the tournament finals.

Fabio Capello’s men had plenty of time to prepare for the Brazil game as their qualifier against Northern Ireland was called off, and they are now 6.00 (5/1) at Stan James to record yet another victory.

The Italian manager has a clean bill of health and he is expected to field the strongest possible line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Akinfeev – Anyukov, Ignashevich, V. Berezutski, D. Kombarov – Shirokov, Denisov, Faizulin – Bystrov, Kerzhakov, Kokorin.
