Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke preview

With both Borussia and Schalke hoping to improve on the somewhat slow start to the league campaign, the Revierderby is likely to deliver us a great deal of excitement.

This season hasn’t started all too well for BVB even if the team were unfortunate not to pick up few more points than they did.

Their Champions League showings have been very impressive, with 1-0 win over Ajax followed by an excellent performance at Etihad Stadium that ultimately was not rewarded by all three points.

However, Borussia have made far too many slip ups on domestic stage, which is why they are now huge 9 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

With a number of important players missing through injury, BVB do not look a good bet at 1.70 (7/10) offered at BetVictor.

It has been confirmed that both Mario Gotze and Jakub Blaszczykowski will miss the game, while Ilkay Gundogan and Marcel Schmelzer are rated doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Widenfeller – Piszczek, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelzer – S. Bender, Kehl – Perisic, Reus, Grosskreutz – Lewandowski.

Having kept hold of red-hot Klaas Jan Huntelaar and added the likes of Ibrahim Afellay, Tranquillo Barnetta and Roman Neustadter to their ranks, Schalke were right to announce title ambitions this season.

Team’s Champions League campaign has been a small distraction, but the Miners, nonetheless, did well to pick up 14 points from first 7 league games.

The 3-0 win over Wolfsburg just before the international break proved the team are on top of their game, but we have yet to see in what shape the players will return from international commitments.

Regardless, Schalke owe it to their fans to try and beat their arch rivals, so bear in mind away win pays 5.25 (17/4) at Sportingbet.

Boss Huub Stevens will have to make do without Kiriakos Papadopoulos and Julian Draxler, who are out with illness and injury respectively.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Hildebrand – Uchida, Howedes, Matip, Fuchs – Neustadter, Jones – Farfan, Holtby, Afellay – Huntelaar.
