Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich Preview

An early claim for the Bundesliga crown could take place on Saturday evening as Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich clash in the first league Klassiker of the season.

Coming into the game at the Signal Iduna Park, the two sides sit joint top of the league table with 15 points each, and only one defeat from six matches thus far. Bayern fell to a 4-1 thumping of Hoffenheim in September but have since won nine matches in a row in all competitions including the 3-2 victory against Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup. Elsewhere, Lucien Favre’s men are too in fantastic form having notched four consecutive wins in all competitions.

The game between the two then should be a great watch, with Bayern currently sitting at favourites to win at odds of 4/5 with William Hill, whilst Dortmund, who are winless and goalless in their last three league matches against their great rivals, are available at 3/1. A first league draw since early 2016 sits at a price of 16/5.

Despite their visitors heading into this huge clash as favourites, BVB will look at their recent defensive solidity for inspiration, an aspect that they will definitely need to draw on against a Bayern side that simply cannot stop scoring. Dortmund have kept four consecutive clean sheets in all competitions. They have not kept five shutouts in a row since 2001 and sit at a price of 13/2 with Betfair to do that against Bayern. The Bavarians are in imperious scoring form this season having found the net on average over 3.5 times per match. They are 10/3 to find the net on three occasions this time around.

Considering the talent they have at their disposal, that could actually be a clever bet. Striker Robert Lewandowski is the all-time leading scorer in Klassiker matches with 23 goals. The Pole is also in stunning form this season having already hit 10 goals in just five Bundesliga matches. He of course then is the favourite to open the scoring against his former employers at odds of 5/2 with Paddy Power.

The Dortmund defence then will have to be at their best to keep them out. They have already been hampered by the absence of a few key players though in the form of Mats Hummels, Emre Can, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Marcel Schmelzer. Bayern have problems of their own though with Alphonso Davies and Niklas Sule both still out of action. Leon Goretzka, who has been in fantastic form thus far this campaign is also restricted to the sidelines.
