Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao preview

Wounded Barcelona are looking to make amends for the Champions League defeat to Arsenal, so high-flying Athletic Bilbao could be in for a very difficult night at Camp Nou.

The Catalans played pretty well against Arsenal but ended up losing the game after squandering a one-goal lead and they are now hoping to record a morale-boosting victory.

Carles Puyol will not be risked against Athletic as he is still training away from the squad, but David Villa should be fit to play despite suffering a bruised ankle in the Arsenal game.

Athletic Bilbao ended the four-match winning run as they lost to Mallorca on Monday, but they, nevertheless, remained in 5th place in La Liga standings.

Los Leones enter the Barca game without any pressure as they have already exceeded all expectations, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try and take advantage of the opponent’s recent struggles.

In the absence of Mikel San Jose and Koikili, Fernando Amorebieta and Xabi Castillo should form the centre-back pairing, which could be a big problem as they have been out of action for two and one month respectively.

Carlos Gurpegui served a suspension against Mallorca and he will replace Pablo Orbaiz, while Fernando Llorente and Gaizka Toquero will continue up front.

With Barcelona desperate to record a morale-boosting win and Athletic set to line up with makeshift defence, we could see goals galore at Camp Nou, especially as Llorente and Toquero are expected to cause all sorts of problems to Barca defenders.

888Sport pays 1.91 (10/11) on both teams to score, while Barca are 2.00 (1/1) to win to nil at Paddy Power.
