Austria vs Germany preview

Austria desperately need a victory in order to return to the running for the second place in the group, whereas Germany are looking to continue the rich vein of form and win sixth straight game in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Dietmar Constantini’s side started the Euro 2012 qualifiers with convincing home wins over Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, but the team soon showed they lack the quality to match the best sides in the group.

After playing out an entertaining 4:4 draw in Belgium, Austria suffered four straight defeats, two of which were part of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

As a result, the Austrians are now in a very difficult position with only victory over Germany keeping their qualifying hopes alive.

Coach Dietmar Constantini has opted not to include Werder misbehaving striker Marko Arnautovic, while Mainz midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz has also been overlooked.

Hans-Peter Bergen, who plays his football in Austrian second division, will start for injured keeper Jurgen Macho and that is something the visitors will be looking to exploit.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Berger – Dragovic, Prodl, Pogatetz, Fuchs – Pehlivan, Bumgartlinger – Harnik, Juzonovic, Alaba – Janko.

Germany have all but secured the first place in a very difficult group having won all five qualifying games, although there is no doubt they are coming to Austria to continue the impressive run.

With Germany red hot at the moment and Austria struggling against top European sides, it is little wonder that 888Sport pays just 1.36 (4/11) on away win.

Joachim Low’s side proved their worth by beating Uruguay in a friendly game played on Sunday with the game against Austria likely to be nothing more than a walk in the park.

Miroslav Klose has pulled out of the squad after suffering a rib injury, while Michael Ballack, Sven Bender, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jerome Boateng, Per Mertesacker and Christian Trasch also miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer; – Lahm, Friedrich, Hummels, Schmelzer – Khedira, Kroos – Muller, Ozil, Podolski – Gomez.
