Fierce rivals Australia and New Zealand will square off in one of the final warm-up games before the start of the World Cup 2014 qualifiers.

After missing the chance to win Asian Cup trophy having lost the final game to Japan, the Socceroos produced quite a coup by beating Germany away in the friendly at Borussia Park.

The victory served as a big confidence boost and helped boss Holger Osieck keep the good atmosphere in the squad, so there is no doubt his side enter this match on a high.

The boss will not be able to field his best side in the match against bitter rivals since Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell, Mark Schwarzer and David Carney are out through injuries.

That will give youngsters Michael Zulio, James Troisi and Rhys Williams a chance to shine, while striker Archie Thompson receives his first call-up under new boss.

Australia are odds-on favourites to win this match, with home win paying 1.40 (2/5) at Stan James.

New Zealand proved all the doubters wrong with impressive performances at the World Cup in South Africa, finishing the competition as the only undefeated side.

The All Whites continued the rich vein of form in their warm-up games, having shared spoils with Honduras and China while only losing to Paraguay, although Thursday’s heavy defeat to Mexico did hurt the players’ confidence.

Ricky Herbert’s side now enter the Australia game following a 14,000km journey from Denver and without several first team regulars, but there is no doubt that proud Kiwis will still put up a fight as they are desperate not to lose to Australia.

Ryan Nelsen, Tony Lochhead, Winston Reid and Leo Bertos miss out, but the boss is tipping Kosta Barbarouses to shine in this match. New Zeland are 2.90 (19/10) with William Hill not to lose the game.
