Wigan vs Manchester United preview

Relegation strugglers Wigan need to produce a major upset in order to finally escape the relegation zone, and they are looking to inflict Manchester United the second defeat in the league campaign.

Roberto Martinez’s side notched up a couple of good results lately, although they were eliminated from the FA Cup by Bolton some ten days ago.

The Spanish boss is hoping recently relaid playing surface will help his side in the remainder of the league campaign, although that is unlikely to go into their favour against Manchester United.

Keeper Ali Al Habsi will return to the side after being ineligible to face Bolton, while Emerson Boyce and Calum McManaman remain injury doubts.

After Arsenal closed the gap behind leaders to just one point, Manchester United have got to win this game and restore the four-point advantage at the top.

Team’s poor performance in Marseille was left unpunished but Sir Alex Ferguson is aware another such showing would cost his side dearly at the JJB.

Michael Owen has made a surprise recovery from a groin injury and he should be in the squad, while Ryan Giggs could be saved for the Tuesday’s clash with Chelsea.

In the absence of Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling will continue in defence, while Valencia, Andreson and Park remain long-term worries.

We are likely to see a very tight game at the JJB, even if United are 1.55 (11/20) to win the game at William Hill. Wigan are priced at 2.40 (7/5) not to lose.
