Swansea City vs Chelsea preview

Swansea City will be aiming to continue the magnificent home run when they host Chelsea, the team that are still not playing to their potential.

Swansea City may have been predicted a difficult survival fight, but Brendan Rodgers’ side quickly showed that they had no intention of only making the numbers in the Premier League.

The Swans impressed football fans around the world with their positive approach and uncompromising style of play, and the best thing is that the results are not suffering.

The newly promoted side have been struggling for form on the travels, having recorded the first away win in the tenth attempt, but they have been absolutely brilliant at their Liberty Stadium.

Considering that Manchester United remain the only side to have taken all three points from Liberty, I see a good value in backing Swansea not to lose at odds of 2.20 (6/5) offered by Stan James.

Apart from Ashley Williams, Brendan Rodgers rested his entire starting line-up in the FA Cup defeat to Bolton, which should give the hosts the extra edge over their opponents.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Vorm – Rangel, Caulker, Williams, Taylor – Britton, Allen – Dyer, Sigurdsson, Sinclair – Graham.

Following some terribly inconsistent performances in the first part of the season, Chelsea have finally found some stability, although the Blues are still far from the desired form.

Back to back victories over Wolverhampton and Sunderland were very fortunate results for Andre Villas-Boas’ side considering their poor showing, whereas the goalless draw with Norwich exposed all team’s weaknesses.

With Didier Drogba still on Africa Cup of Nations duty and Fernando Torres not even a shade of the player he once was, it is little wonder Chelsea scored just one goal from open play in last three games.

Add to that the fact that Swansea kept 6 clean sheets in 11 home games and you will see why backing Chelsea to score under 1.5 goals at 1.95 (19/20) offered by Stan James makes perfect sense.

Key midfielder Ramires is set to miss next four weeks with a knee injury, whereas Gary Cahill has yet to be handed a debut.

Having fielded his strongest line-up in the weekend’s clash with QPR, Andre Villas-Boas could make some changes so as to freshen up his starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Cech – Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole – Lampard, Romeu, Meireles – Sturridge, Torres, Mata.
