Reading vs Manchester City Preview

Roberto Mancini

Manchester City begin life without Roberto Mancini with a visit to relegated Reading on Tuesday evening.

The Italian was sacked on Monday, two days after losing the FA Cup final to Wigan Athletic, with the club saying he “had failed to achieve any of the clubs targets, with the exception of qualification for next seasons Champions League”.

Malaga’s Manuel Pellegrini is favourite to replace the 48 year old, with Sky Bet offering 1.33 (1/3) immediately after the announcement.

Reading, who have won four of their five meetings with Manchester City go in to the game on the back of their first win in eleven games.

Hope Akpan could return to the match day squad, though Jimmy Kebe and Adam Federici remain side-lined.

Pavel Pogrebnyak is widely available at 10.0 (9/1) to open the scoring, with Hal Robson-Kanu a 17.0 (16/1) shot with Ladbrokes.

The Royals are 5.5 (11/2) for the win, with City favourites at a best price of 1.57 (4/7) with Paddy Power. The draw is a 4.5 (7/2) shot with Bet Victor.

Last season’s Champions will secure second place if they avoid defeat though they have collected the fewest points on the road of all of the sides in the top five, winning just two of the last seven away league games.

Pablo Zabaleta misses the game after being dismissed at Wembley, while Scott Sinclair is also unavailable having had a blood clot removed from his shoulder last week.

Sergio Aguero is the 5.5 (9/2) favourite with Bet 365 to get the first goal, while Carlos Tevez is a 6.0 (5/1) shot with the same firm.

City had to wait until the 90th minute to gain the edge in the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium back in December, when Gareth Barry nodded in a controversial winner.

The 1-0 win was one of seventeen league games where City failed to concede; the best record in the division while no team has kept fewer clean sheets than the Reading.

Coral offer 3.1 (21/10) for the visitors to win to nil, while the 0-1 score-line is best priced at Ladbrokes, who offer 10.0 (9/1).
