Newcastle United vs Manchester United Preview

The final Premier League fixture of the weekend sees Newcastle United host Manchester United; both sides having been victorious in their respective European excursions midweek.

The two sides only met at the end of last month, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s men claimed a 2-1 victory in the third round of the League Cup; Tom Cleverly and Anderson putting the game out of reach before Papiss Cisse’s consolation.

The hosts look set to recall Davide Santon, Jonas Gutierrez, Hatem Ben Arfa and top scorer Demba Ba, who were all rested in their impressive 3-0 victory over Bordeaux on Thursday.

Ba opened the scoring in the corresponding fixture last season, as Newcastle went on to record an emphatic 3-0 victory. The Senegalese forward is 8.0 (7/1) to get the first goal once again, while an unlikely repeat of that score line is as highly priced as 71.0 (70/1) with Bet Victor.

Stan James offer the best odds 0f 4.33 (10/3) for Newcastle to win the match, while the same firm have Manchester United at 1.95 (20/21). The draw is 3.75 (11/4) with Bet Victor.

The visitors had to come from behind in Romania on Tuesday evening, eventually beating CFR Cluj 2-1 thanks to a brace from Robin Van Persie.

The Dutchman now has seven for the season, and is unsurprisingly the favourite to open the scoring this weekend, with Stan James offering odds of 5.5 (9/2).

Jonny Evans has recovered from a dead leg, though Antonio Valencia will miss out with an ankle injury. Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs are both available following their respective illness’s, and the latter is 8.0 (7/1) with Paddy Power to score at any time, and in doing so continue his remarkable run of scoring in every season of the Premier League since its inception in 1992.

Whatever the result, with two of the form strikers in the league coming head to head there is every chance of goals, so you might be tempted to take advantage of Paddy Power’s offer of 2.88 (15/8) for there to be four or more in the game.
