Liverpool vs Newcastle United Preview

Saturday’s Premier League action concludes at Anfield where Liverpool take on Newcastle United.

The Reds are the division’s in form team having won eight of their last eleven games – the latest of those victories coming last time out as they thumped West Ham United by four goals to one.

Another triumph here would see them move into second place, with Manchester United not playing until Monday evening, when they are at Crystal Palace.

James Milner is closing in on his return from injury and will be assessed ahead of kick-off, as will ill pair Georginio Wijnaldum and Ben Woodburn though Nathaniel Clyne remains sidelined.

Top scorer Mo Salah is favourite to open the scoring at 3.9 (29/10) with Unibet, ahead of 4.6 (18/5) chance Roberto Firmino.

The home win is widely available at 1.22 (2/9) with the visitors as highly priced as the 17.0 (16/1) shot with Ladbrokes. The draw can be backed at 7.4 (32/5) with Unibet.

Rafa Benitez’s side have been beaten just once in their last eight league games, and that loss came at the hands of runaway leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium back in January.

However, five of those games have ended in draws including last weekends match with Bouremouth where the North East outfit squandered a two goal lead and they go into the weekend just two points above the bottom three.

Jonjo Shlevey picked up a knee injury at the Vitality Stadium so will miss out against his former club with Islam Slimani also out though Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie could feature after returning to fitness.

Joselu is 13.0 (12/1) to get the first goal of the game with several firms with Ayoze Perez a 16.0 (15/1) shot with Unibet.

Th two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture back in October while last season’s meeting on Merseyside also finished all square.
