Kompany tips City to shine in January

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is adamant that his teammates have enough quality and determination to recover from the latest setbacks.

The Citizens squandered the five-point advantage over the last few weeks and enter the busy January schedule tied on points with bitter rivals United.

Roberto Mancini recently criticized the hectic January schedule, but the Belgian defender is not too worried before the string of difficult games.

“Personally, I love it. I am looking forward to that month, knowing that every game is going to be a big game.

“It is something that usually makes me raise my personal level and makes the team raise their level. We are a team capable of doing good things on big occasions. For us that is maybe not a bad thing.”

Mancini is looking to deploy his rotation policy throughout January, but Kompany believes that players would rather be playing all the time.

The game is powerful, pacy and when you finish a game it takes time to recover. That is the reality of things.

“I always think that players who get the chance to rest are probably more protected against injuries. But we are all individuals that love the game first of all. Just like the fans want to see a lot of games, we want to play a lot.”

Despite the recent slump in form, Manchester City are still considered favourites for the Premier League trophy, with Sportingbet paying 1.85 (17/20) on the Citizens.
