Chelsea vs. West Bromwich Albion Preview

Saturday afternoon’s game at Stamford Bridge sees Steve Clarke takes his West Bromwich Albion side to face former club Chelsea.

The hosts slipped to fourth place following defeat to champions Manchester City last weekend, and defeat here would see them end the weekend outside of the top four should Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby on Sunday.

Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta are set to return after missing the midweek FA Cup win over Middlesbrough, though midfielders Yossi Benayoun and Oriel Romeu remain out through injury.

Demba Ba is favourite to open the scoring at 5.0 (4/1) with Bet Victor, despite not finding the net in his last nine games, while Frank Lampard is a 7.0 (6/1) shot with the same firm.

Chelsea are odds on favourites to win the match, and can be backed at 1.44 (4/9) with a variety of firms, with Paddy Power offering the best price of 9.0 (8/1) for West Brom to come out on top. The draw is 5.0 (4/1) with Bet Victor.

Back to back wins for the Baggies has kept well in the hunt for a European qualification, though they remain seven points behind the top five.

The visitors will be without top scorer Roman Lukaku, who is ineligible to face his parent club, so Shane Long is set to lead the line if passed fit. Goran Popov serves the final game of his three match suspension.

Long is 13.0 (12/1) with Bet Victor to get the first goal of the game, with Peter Odemwingie available at the same price with the same firm.

Both strikers scored either side of an Eden Hazard strike to secure a 2-1 victory for West Brom when the sides met at the Hawthorns back in November.

That result took Steve Clarke’s side to within a point of his former employees, though the chances of them becoming the first side to do the double over the European Champions this season seem slim, with Chelsea winning the last six meetings between the sides in the capital.

However, with the Blues recent league from so inconsistent, the 3.0 (2/1) offered by Bet 365 for West Brom to avoid defeat is certainly worth considering.
