Aston Villa vs. Manchester United Preview

Table toppers Manchester United travel to Aston Villa late Saturday afternoon, hoping to maintain their impressive record on Trinity Road.

The visitors have only lost once in thirty-three games against Villa, and are unbeaten in their last sixteen meetings in the league at Villa Park, winning ten of those matches.

A Phil Jones goal was enough to give Sir Alex Ferguson’s men victory in the corresponding fixture last December; however the defender, along with Nemanja Vidic, Shinji Kagawa and Nani will miss out this time around, while Jonny Evans is also doubtful.

United go in to the match having come from behind to beat Sporting Braga by three goals to one in Wednesday evenings Champions League match.

Robin Van Persie, who started the comeback midweek, is set to once again lead the line, and the Premier League top score is priced at 4.5 (7/2) with Paddy Power to open the scoring here.

The visitors are odds on to secure their fifth straight league victory, with Paddy Power offering the best price of 1.53 (8/15). The hosts are as highly priced as 7.0 (6/1) while the draw is 4.5 (7/2) with Bet 365.

After a slow start, Aston Villa’s form has improved of late, and they go in to the game on the back of three games unbeaten. They remain just one place above the relegation zone, though three points could see them rise to twelfth place, depending on results elsewhere.

Paul Lambert may recall Karim El Ahmadi, who is available following his suspension, though defender Eric Lichaj is banned.

Left back Joe Bennett is struggling with a knee injury, while striker Darren Bent and midfielder Charles N’Zogbia also remain side-lined.

Gabriel Abonglahor, who scored for the first time in 29 games in last weekend’s win over Sunderland, is priced at 12.0 (11/1) to get the first goal of the game.

Manchester United have gone on to win the last four games where they have conceded the first goal, so you might be tempted to back the hosts to grab the first goal of the game at 3.4 (12/5) with Bet 365.

Alternatively, you could back the visitors to come from behind and draw or win, at a price of 4.75 (15/4) with William Hill.
