Atletico vs VillarrealAtletico Madrid will want to extend the good run of results before they take on PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Deportivo La Coruna desperately need to end a 14-match winless run soon or risk slipping into the danger zone.

Chances are that Atletico Madrid will not be able to mount a serious title challenge this season despite all their efforts, but that does not mean there is any reason to worry.

Los Colchoneros may be eight points behind leaders Barcelona, but they sit four points clear of local rivals Real Madrid, which is an incredible achievement in itself.

Atletico now need to ensure they remain there come end of the season, but they are clearly on the right track, having won last three La Liga fixtures.

Following the derby win at Santiago Bernabeu, los Colchoneros also defeated Real Sociedad and Valencia, and are now 1.80 (4/5) for a half-time/full-time win vs Deportivo.

In spite of the importance of the PSV clash, Diego Simeone is unlikely to make major changes to the side, although Jesus Gamez is expected to start.

Fernando Torres looks set to miss out through a knee problem, with Stefan Savic and Tiago Mendes not yet ready to return into action.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Oblak – Gamez, Gimenez, Godin, Filipe Luis – Koke, Gabi, Saul – Vietto, Griezmann, Ferreira-Carrasco.

Deportivo La Coruna enjoyed a tremendous start to the current season, led by the impressive Lucas Perez, but the short winter break clearly had a very negative effect on the team.

Fast forward two and a half months and La Coruna are still without a win in 2016, having failed to triumph in any of their last 14 fixtures in all competitions.

And while they still hold a seven-point advantage over the relegation zone, they could be in all sorts of problems unless they can start winning any time soon.

A three-match losing run came to an end last weekend as Deportivo shared spoils with Malaga, as Alejandro Arribas’ own goal denying the hosts what would have been a deserved victory.

Star striker Lucas Perez is unlikely to be risked as he battles a thigh problem, with Jonathan or Oriol Riera set to replace him in the starting line-up.

Full-back Juanfran faces a fitness test as he battles a muscle injury, but he is expected to start against Atletico Madrid at Vicente Calderon. Cani should also return to the side.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Lux – Juanfran, Arribas, Navarro, Luisinho – Bergantinos, Mosquera, Borges – Cani, Riera, Luis Alberto.
