Former West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke is now the favourite to be named Leeds United’s new manager.

The Yorkshire club have been on the lookout for a new boss since David Hockaday was dismissed after just seventy days, and six games in charge last month and Clarke is the front runner to be named as his replacement.

The ex-Scotland centre half has been out of work since he was sacked by West Brom, his first full-time managerial position, last December and can be backed at 1/1 (2.0) with Coral to take the reins at Elland Road.

Neil Redfearn, who was placed in caretaker charge of Leeds for the fourth time a fortnight ago, is second favourite at 4.0 (3/1) with Paddy Power, ahead of Head of Development and Recruitment Terry Porter who can be backed at 13.0 (12/1) with Bet Victor.

Gary McAllister is next in the market at 17.0 (16/1) with Sky Bet having served the club for six years as a player, during which time he won the first division championship in the season before the Premier League was incepted while he also managed the club for fifty games in 2008.

Giuseppe Sannino, who left his position as Watford manager last month is also a 17.0 (16/1) chance with Sky Bet, as is former Norwich City boss Chris Hughton while Ian Culverhouse, who was dismissed from his position as Aston Villa assistant manager in April is a 21.0 (20/1) shot with Bet Victor.

A whole host of candidates including Rolando Moran, Tony Mowbary, Mark Cooper, Neil Lennon, Neil Aspin, Carlos Quieroz and ex-Leeds boss Simon Grayson can all be backed at 34.0 (33/1) with Bet Victor, with Gianluca Festa and United legend Gary Kelly 67.0 (66/1) with the same firm.

Of the other names listed at 67.0 (66/1), Italian quartet Gianfranco Zola, Paolo Di Canio, Robert Di Matteo and Benito Carbone may be worth considering, along with former players Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Brian Deane and David Hopkin, and David O’Leary, who managed the club at the turn of the century.

Leeds, who currently sit eighteenth in the Championship, next face Birmingham City at St Andrews on Saturday afternoon.
