Borussia M’gladbach vs RB Leipzig preview

With just one point separating the two sides at the moment and both sitting outside of Champions League positions, we should see a highly entertaining affair in Monchengladbach.

Borussia have been blowing hot and cold from the very start to the season, with Dieter Hecking’s men largely struggling on the road.

Die Fohlen have now lost four straight away matches in Bundesliga, scoring just one goal in the process, and it is clear that this is an area that needs to be seriously improved.

On the other hand, Borussia recorded three wins and two draws in last five home games, even defeating mighty Bayern Munich in the process.

Die Fohlen appear to be still searching for form, as witnessed by the 2-0 defeat to top 4 rivals Eintracht Frankfurt last Friday, and they face another difficult fixture this weekend.

Borussia M’gladbach haven’t beaten RB Leipzig since they gained promotion to the Bundesliga (D2 L1), while each of those matches saw both teams get on the scoresheet.

The hosts are missing quite a few important players at the moment, including Sommer, Wendt, Doucoure, Raffael, Traore, Strobl and Johnson.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-2-2): Sippel – Elvedi, Ginter, Vestergaard, Jantschke – Kramer, Zakaria – Herrmann, Grifo – Hazard, Stindl.

RB Leipzig enjoyed a very good first part of the season, spending quite some time in second position, but they have since suffered a dip in form.

The Red Bulls slipped to fifth in the overall standings as they recorded just one win in last seven, so they definitely need to try and raise their game.

Since the league campaign resumed, RB Leipzig defeated Schalke, lost to Freiburg and shared spoils with Hamburg, and the run of difficult fixtures is set ti continue.

But, having done well in the past against Borussia M’gladbach, the Red Bulls have reason for optimism ahead of the trip to Monchengladbach.

The visitors don’t have too many selection worries at the moment, as only Forsberg, Halstenberg, Kohn and Coltorti miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Gulacsi – Klostermann, Orban, Upamecano, Bernardo – Sabitzer, Keita, Kampl, Bruma – Werner, Poulsen.
