West Bromwich vs West Ham preview

West Brom v West HamWest Bromwich will be desperate to end a three-match losing streak when they host high-flying West Ham, a team that just ended a disappointing run of their own.

The Baggies enjoyed a bright start to the new campaign under Alan Irvine, with new England star Saido Berahino especially impressive.

However, the team have since failed to keep the rich vein of form, with the downtrend starting from the League Cup loss to Bournemouth.

West Brom showed some improvement to beat Leicester City on the road, but they have since been utterly disappointing in the league.

The Baggies not only lost successive matches to Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal, but failed to score a single goal in the process, and now sit dangerously close to the bottom three.

This means that any win over high-flying West Ham would be more than welcome, but I don’t see value in odds of 2.50 (3/2) offered on home win.

Alan Irvine faces serious selection problems ahead of the Hammers clash, with James Morrison and Sebastien Pocognoli both rated doubtful.

Claudio Yacob returns from suspension, while Jonas Olsson and Silvestre Varela looks set to miss out through injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Foster – Wisdom, Dawson, Lescott, Gamboa – Gardner, Yacob – Dorrans, Sessegnon, Brunt – Berahino.

Together with Southampton, West Ham have been the biggest surprise package of the season as the Hammers are enjoying their best Premier League campaign in years.

Sam Allardyce’s side currently occupies fifth place in the standings, sitting just one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United, and they seem to have managed to overcome a short poor run of results.

With quite a few important players on the sidelines, the Hammers could only take two points from three Premiership fixtures, before putting an end to Newcastle’s winning run at the weekend.

West Ham enjoyed a hard-fought victory over Magpies to revive their top 6 hopes and they can now be backed at 3.20 (11/5) to win at the Hawthorns.

Stewart Downing and Cheikhou Kouyate have returned into action, while Winston Reid is back from a one-match ban.

However, important players Alex Song, Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho are expected to miss out through injury once again.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Adrian – Jenkinson, Collins, Reid, Cresswell – Noble, Kouyate – Amalfitano, Downing, Jarvis – Carroll.
