Former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has hailed current Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola as ‘truly the best’

The Belgian played under Guardiola for three seasons between 2016 to 2019 before departing for Anderlecht, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups under the Spaniard.

Rumours have circled in recent times concerning Guardiola’s future at the club and despite signing a new contract until 2021, there are suggestions he could leave. However, Kompany has appealed to the club to do anything they can to keep the ‘best’ manager in the world.

Talking to Sky Sports News, he said: “If I was in a deciding position at City now, [then] I would do everything I can to keep Pep [Guardiola] for as long as I can. He is truly the best.

“To say anyone will ever come near, it is speculating in a ludicrous way.”

In their pursuit of a third Premier League title in a row, City have slightly underwhelmed and sit third in the current table, already 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.

They notched a morale-boosting victory last time out though, beating title-chasing Leicester City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, a result that has the seen the odds of them winning the title this season fluctuate to 6/1 with Betfair.
