BBC Sport is reporting that former England manager Sam Allardyce has emerged as hot favourite to take over the reigns at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have been searching for a new boss since they decided to sack Ronald Koeman, with David Unsworth in charge of the team in the past few weeks.

Latest reports suggest that Everton chiefs could offer the job to Sam Allardyce, who is now priced at 1.36 (4/11) with Betfair in the next permanent manager market.

It is believed that the Toffees initially wanted Watford manager Marco Silva, but decided to turn their attention to Big Sam after the Hornets rejected their approach.

Sam Allardyce left Crystal Palace last summer after helping the Eagles survive the drop and while he has fared really well with bottom-table sides, this would be his first high-profile job after the short spell with England.

In spite of the heavy summer recruitment, Everton have largely struggled this season and currently sit just two points above the bottom three.
