Lyon vs MonacoPremier League strugglers Newcastle United are hot on the trail of Lyon hotshot Alexandre Lacazette, according to L’Equipe.

The Magpies’ attacking problems are well documented with both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse failing to impress and it looks as though Steve McClaren has set his sights on recruiting a proven goalscorer in January.

L’Equipe has suggested that Newcastle have already offered £19 million for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, but it appears that les Gones are holding out for £23 million.

The Magpies representatives were in France last week to present their proposal, but it looks as though the player himself is not too keen on joining a club that fight for Premier League survival.

Lacazette is reportedly on the radar of quite a few top sides, but his poor form this season is probably the reason why the interest in his services has cooled off.

Following the third straight defeat, Newcastle United sit two points adrift of safety and they are 2.38 (11/8) shot to stay up.
