Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly edging close to making their second signing of the summer having finally agreed a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard has long been linked with a move to Anfield, with various reports now indicating that the Merseysiders have struck a deal worth £20m plus £5m in add-ons to finally secure his signature.

The 29-year-old is reportedly set to sign a four-year contract with the club and claim the No. 6 shirt at the club.

Bayern boss Hansi Flick has all-but confirmed that the midfielder is close to departing the Allianz Arena.

Talking on Thursday in a press conference, he said: “Thiago is an exceptional player who had huge success here for seven years. He’s a great person and an exceptional professional.

“It was very emotional today when he said goodbye.”

Thiago has been with Bayern since a 2013 move from Spanish giants Barcelona and gone on to make 235 appearances, scoring 31 goals. In that time, he has won seven Bundesliga titles, as well as a UEFA Champions League to add to his prior win in the competition with Barcelona.

He will become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer following the prior arrival of Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos.

Meanwhile, the Reds continue the defence of their title on Sunday as they face Chelsea and can be backed at odds of 6/5 with William Hill.
