Vaduz vs Vojvodina

The small club from Liechtenstein are looking to cause a major upset against one of the best Serbian teams, but there is no doubt they are in for a very difficult task. Vojvodina are looking very good at the moment and the Serbs will try to create an advantage before the return leg at Karadjordje stadium.

Can Vaduz produce a surprise?

Being the only notable club in Liechtenstein, Vaduz obviously have no problems qualifying for the Europa League qualifying stages, as wining the FL1 Active Cup of Liechtenstein is hardly a problem for them. However, despite representing Liechtenstein on international stage, Vaduz play their football in Switzerland’s league system and are currently part of the second division. Eric Orie’s side finished last league campaign in 4th place, proving they still don’t have enough quality to return to the elite division. Vaduz are now set to face the team superior to them in every aspect of the game, so it’s needless to say that the hosts are in for a tough task. Having passed the first obstacle in Europe only once in last five years, Vaduz don’t look capable of bettering that result this term. Just so you have a clear picture of this team’s quality, I will tell you that Vaduz have lost their final preparation game 4:0 to German second division side Greuther Furth.

The club have recently signed young keeper Oliver Klaus from Basel, but he will have to settle for a place on the bench.

Vojvodina on the rise

Vojvodina have spent last decade in the shade of Serbian giants Crvena Zvezda and Partizan, but the club from Novi Sad are on the verge of upsetting the order in Serbian football. Led by coach Zoran Milinkovic, Slaninari largely impressed last season, having stayed in the title race until the very end of the season, only to finish the league campaign in third place. Vojvodina also did well in Serbian Cup, but were robbed the title after referee made some shocking decisions in the final against Partizan. Coach Zoran Milinkovic left the club this summer, but talented Ljubomir Ristovski arrived to replace him and it looks as though the team will continue their rich vein of form. Keeper Zeljko Brkic and young forward Aleksandar Katai left Karadjordje this summer, but Nemanja Supic, Vladimir Brankovic and Nemanja Covic all arrived, making this team even stronger than last season. In the final preparation game Vojvodina hammered one of the best teams in Serbian second division Proleter Novi Sad 5:0.

Midfielder Nikola Lazetic is banned for misconduct during the Serbian Cup final, but all other players are ready to face Vaduz.

Verdict

Vaduz are nothing more than an average team in Swizerland’s second division and as such they cannot be expected to match very good Vojvodina side. The Serbian team appear to be in very good form at the moment and they should be able to record a comfortable win in Liechtenstein.
