8 Most Popular Football Bets

There was a time when punters could only bet on the match winner or the number of goals in a match, but the online betting market has progressed a great deal since then, with top online bookmakers now offering more than 100 markets per individual game. Even if punters now have endless number of betting options, there are still several bets that are extremely popular in the online gambling community and these will be featured below.

Match Bets

Match betting remains very popular among online bettors and that is likely to stay that way for years to come. All you have to do here is to correctly predict the winner of the match or bet on a draw and if your bet wins, you will win some money. It’s up to you to decide whether to back the favourites at short odds, or maybe bet on the underdogs and hope for hefty returns.

Over/Under Bets

Over/under betting has also been around for quite a while and it is great alternative to match betting. If you are not really sure which team are going to win, you can simply bet on over, if you expect an open game, or on under, if a tight game is on the cards. The usual line is 2.5, meaning that you are basically betting on three or more goals or two or less, but you can also choose other lines such as 0.5, 1.5, 3.5, 4.5, etc.

Asian Handicap Bets

Asian handicap betting was introduced a bit later than match betting and over/under betting, but these kinds of markets have been embraced by sports bettors everywhere. Asian handicap is designed to give the underdog a small advantage before a match, ruling out draw from the equation. Asian handicap allows you to back the favourites at much higher odds than usual, as well as to back the underdogs not to lose by a big margin.

Both Teams to Score

Backing both teams to score is one of my favourite bets and it is just perfect for those open games where you expect the underdogs to score as well. Backing the favourite to score is unlikely to bring you big profits, but odds on both teams to score are usually much higher and these bets can be a perfect way to boost your bankroll.

To Win to Nil

This is another alternative to match betting or rather a combination of two bets. You are basically betting on a team to win and keep a clean sheet at the same time, and by doing so you will get much higher odds than those offered on the team to win. Backing the favourites with a strong defence to win to nil is a great way to get a good value for your money.

Anytime Goalscorer

Rather than betting on a player to score the first goal in a game, you can back the player to score at anytime, and even if the odds will be somewhat lower, anytime goalscorer bets can ultimately bring you long-term profit. Betting on the player who is in great scoring form to score anytime in a match is usually a good thing to do.

Double Chance

Betting on double chance basically means that you are backing a team not to lose, that is to win or draw. The odds on double chance bets are obviously lower than those on outright win, but covering two out of three outcomes can be a great way to start the winning run.

Team to Score Two Goals or More

For all those who like to bet on favourites, but are not too keen about backing them to win at pretty pathetic odds, betting on the team to score two goals or more is the right thing to do. If the favourites are to win a game, they are likely to score at least a couple, so this popular market beats the winner market any time.
