Vermaelen injuryBelgium boss Marc Wilmots has revealed that he does not plan to use starting defenders Vincent Kompany and Thomas Veramelen in the final group game against Korea Republic.

Having won their first two fixtures, albeit more difficult than expected, the Red Devils are already through, while they only need one more point to progress from the first place in the group.

It is for that reason that boss Marc Wilmots plans to rest some of his star players, including defenders Vincent Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen.

With the two players carrying a groin and knee injury respectively, the coach does not want to risk them against Korea.

“They’re not very serious but we want to keep them fresh. They won’t play against South Korea,” Wilmots told reporters in Sao Paulo.

The likes of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Axel Witsel are expected to be rested as well, but Belgium remain 1.73 (8/11) favourites to claim maximum points.
