Ciro Immobile ItalyTorino boss Giampiero Ventura is adamant that talented forward Ciro Immobile warrants a place in Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup squad.

The 24-year-old is enjoying by far the most successful season in his career and he currently tops the Serie A goalscoring charts with 21 goals.

And having produced such a coup without scoring a single goal from the penalty spot in the process, Immobile is rightly being tipped to be on the plane to Brazil.

“It is much more important to think of Immobile’s 21 goals and the chances Immobile, Alessio Cerci and Matteo Darmian have of going to the World Cup,” Torino coach Giampiero Ventura was quoted as saying.

“I don’t want to sponsor anyone. I’ll just say that Ciro works hard for the team and chases the ball back down.

“At this moment he is beyond normal levels and he’s right to aim for the World Cup. To score 21 Serie A goals without penalties is an impressive statistic.”

The Juventus graduate who is still co-owned by the Old Lady is available at 1.35 (7/20) to finish the season as Serie A top goalscorer.

And despite only making his Italy debut in a March friendly against Spain, Immobile has a very good chance of representing the Azzurri at the 2014 World Cup.
