Group D commences in Fortaleza on Saturday afternoon (local time) as Uruguay take on Costa Rica.

The Copa America winners qualified the hard way, needing a play-off victory against Jordan to book their place in Brazil.

They are however unbeaten in their last six internationals, and go into the game having beat Northern Ireland and Slovenia in the past two weeks in preparation for the tournament.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who was the top scorer in South American qualifying, is in a race to be fit in time to feature, while Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is also an injury concern for manager Oscar Tabarez.

Suarez is favourite to open the scoring at 4.0 (3/1) with a variety of firms, with Paris Saint Germain forward Edinson Cavani a 5.0 (4/1) shot with Bet 365.

Uruguay are odds on favourites to win the match at 1.5 (1/2) with Coral, with Costa Rica as highly priced as the 9.0 (8/1) on offer from a selection of bookmakers. The draw is a 4.5 (7/2) shot with Bet 365.

Costa Rice finished second to the United States in the CONCACAF qualification, but have won just one of their six matches since securing their position here.

They followed up last week’s defeat to Japan with a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, and are looking for their first ever victory against Uruguay this weekend.

Deportivo Saprissa’s Michael Umana and fellow defender Cristian Gamboa of Rosenborg are Jorge Luis Pinto’s only injury concerns, though both should recover from illness in time to be considered for selection.

Fulham forward Bryan Ruiz, who ended the domestic season on loan with PSV Eindhoven, is 15.0 (14/1) to get the first goal of the game with Bet 365, ahead of Kruban Krasnodar’s Marcos Urena, who can be backed at 21.0 (20/1) with the same firm.

The last meeting between the sides ended 1-1 in the play-offs for qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and with both sides desperate to not lose their opening fixture, you may be tempted to back the same scoreline here at 9.5 (17/2) with Bet Victor.
