Odemwingie, Yobo named in Nigeria’s provisional World Cup squad

Nigeria squadNigeria coach Stephen Keshi has announced his provisional 30-man squad for the 2014 World Cup, serving up quite a few surprises in the process.

The list revealed by the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday features star players from the team that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations such as Sunday Mba, Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa and John Obi Mikel.

Stephen Keshi surprised everyone by recalling Peter Odemwingie and Joseph Yobo, whereas Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi also makes the squad.

The Super Eagles are set to face Scotland on 28th May at Craven Cottage before flying to a training camp in Houston, Texas.

They will play Greece and Unites States on 3rd and 7th June respectively, by which time Stephen Keshi will have named the final 23-man squad.

Nigeria made it to the 2014 World Cup after defeating Ethiopia in the play-offs, and they have been placed in a fairly easy group.

The Super Eagles will be vying Iran, Bosnia and Argentina for two places in the next round, and they are 2.40 (7/5) to qualify.
