Per Mertesacker GermanyArsenal defender Per Mertesacker has warned his side not to underestimate their opponents in the World Cup final.

Germany go into the match at Maracana on the back of a stunning 7-1 victory over hosts Brazil, but Mertesacker is adamant Die Mannschaft cannot afford to get complacent.

“We can’t lose our focus now because we scored seven goals,” said Mertsesacker. “If you look at the stats, the passing, the goals we scored, everything was so fluent.

“We must keep calm and be aware of the situation. We want more history. We don’t want to just settle for this result before the final.”

Germany were not that impressive on the road to the semi-finals, but the 7-1 hammering of Brazil has turned them into strong favourites for the World Cup title.

Die Mannschaft are available at 2.38 (11/8) to win the clash in regular time and repeat the outcome of the 1990 final when they recorded a 1-0 triumph over Los Albicelestes.
